water

Bio is hard, but yet really interesting at the same time. im getting 2 Bs in it already so it doesnt matter what i get on the finals anyways. im stuck at a B.. i should still sorta study for it cuz the final's grade is gonna show up on my report card and everything. sighh
oh yea, we did this awesome gel electrophoresis experiment thingy today. we used this micropipette that made me feel sorta professionalish :D

btw, im probably gonna fill up most of the posts this week with me studying so.....

Properties of water

1) High specific heat
The specific amount of heat energy that must be added to a gram of a substance to change its temperature by one degree celcius
tempereature= average kenetic energy of the molecules in a substance
kenetic energy=energy of motion

2) Water is a powerful solvent
ionic compounds
dissociation = seperation of ions in an ionic compound
acids increase H+ concentration in a solution

3) High heat of vapoization
Heat energy is required to change the state of a substance from liquid to gas
evaporation cooling = water takes a lot of heat energy with it when it evaporates and maintains homeostasis

4) Ice is less dense than water
it expands when frozen
